Black and white salmon during the salmon run. A salmon run is a migration of salmon up a river from the sea, in order to spawn. The journey is long, rough and dangerous as the salmon swim upstream to where they were born in order to spawn. This is usually the end of their lifecycle but new hatchlings will carry on the lifecycle and will repeat the journey.
